Judah’s Nautical First Birthday Party!

Ahoy there, matey! Sometimes I still can’t believe I have an honest-to-goodness 1-year-old on my hands. Judah had an amazing first birthday party in May, with friends and family traveling from all over the country to join us for his special day. We were so touched and honored that so many people could join us for a day that was filled with plenty of fun, laughter and celebration. After months of planning our nautical-themed party, we were thrilled with the way everything turned out.Get inspired for summer celebrations of your own with Judah’s nautical first birthday party!Judah’s Nautical First Birthday Party!Get ready to #setsail for one adorable first birthday party!Nautical Decorated Mason JarsAfter seeing so many neat nautical themed birthday party ideas, baby clothes, I combined several with hand-stamped wooden cutlery with words like “sail” and “celebrate” in addition to mason jars decorated with Lifesaver candies. This birthday banner was a labor of love, from measuring and cutting each banner square, to adding each letter, then attaching each letter square to a long string of jute. Nautical themed or not, we’ll be using this for ALL of Judah’s birthdays from now on!Photo by Keiko ZollThe Birthday ChairI saved one of the origami boats to top off Judah’s high chair and with the leftover paper from his birthday banner, made a nautical-themed bunting to drape around the edge of his chair.Photo by Rachel ZollA Fleet of DecorationsIn our office, I lined the hearth with a fleet of origami ships (made with only just two folds!) and a handmade banner stamped with vintage anchors.Photo by Keiko ZollSeaside Selfies! With some lovely nautical themed paper from Paper Source, we turned a windowed nook in our home into the “seaside selfie” corner, complete with nautical themed photo props that I made!Photo by Keiko Zoll#setsailWe encouraged folks to tag their “seaside selfies” with hashtag #setail on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.Photo by Keiko ZollSalt Water Taffy FlavorsIn keeping with our nautical theme, we bought a ton of freshly made salt water taffy from the Salem Willows, a seaside tradition here in Salem for over 100 years!
