A Simple Plan For Researching Pump

Types of Sewer Utilities

Water and sewer utilities are a major need for all industrial, commercial and residential households in a given area. Industrial, residential and commercial facilities require potable water for a smooth running of their activities hence a water utility system is put in place for providing this water. Sewer utilities, on the other hand, are meant to carry wastewater generated from the commercial, industrial and residential setting away into a commonplace. Both the pipes for water and sewer utilities run together in most regions although some sewer utilities run underground. The water pipes are required to be above the sewer pipes to avoid contamination of the potable water in case there is a leakage in the sewer pipes.

Sewer utilities carry the wastewater commonly referred to as sewage into a treatment facility or where they are disposed. All waste water from all premises in an area is carried in those sewer utilities as long as it is connected. Sometimes the sewer utilities are made such that they can also carry storm water mostly in town areas where the surfaces are unable to allow the water to infiltrate into the soil. Some areas also put in place two separate sewers to carry both the sewage and the stormwater. This is because it is easier to manage sewage water and storm water separately as they contain different types and quantities of waste. Once the sewage water gets into a treatment plant, it is treated to remove organic and inorganic waste material present to make the water safe for release into the environment. In most places, the users of the sewer utilities are required to pay for the services which happen as they pay for the water utilities. The payments collected are used in the maintenance of the sewer utilities.

There are also areas that are not connected to the municipal sewer utilities hence they go for septic tanks which are also sewer utilities. Concrete, plastic or fiberglass are some of the materials that make septic tanks used to collect wastewater. Septic tanks are mainly used in residential areas since the wastewater generated is not a lot. Also, septic tanks can be able to treat the wastewater by the use of microorganism present inside. There are some measures one has to put in place to ensure prper running of the septic tank. These include reducing the amount of oil disposed as well as preventing release of harmful chemicals that are likely to kill microorganisms or destroy the septic tank. In all areas, septic tank are required to be placed underground in such a way that they do not leak or release odors. Septic tanks are also required to be located at least 5 feet from the house in most areas.
